Every year since 1955, Surin has been the scene of the Elephant Round up.

This is usually the middle of November, culminating in a final weekend, which

includes,

The Surin Elephant festival Breakfast, and the Light and sound show at

Sikhoraphum Castle, and of course the Elephant show.

This year the dates for the main events will be Friday 20 th November for the

elephant breakfast, and Sat & Sunday 21st & 22nd for the shows. The Light

and Sound show will be on Friday 20th in the evening

There are four ways to come to Surin if you do not have your own transport.

1) Train. Trains leave Hua Lampong about 8 times a day. Most of the travellers

do tend to take the overnight sleeper, which departs BKK around 21.00 and

arrives in Surin sometime between 04.00 & 05.00. Visitors taking this option

need not fear. Our restaurant is open for breakfast and I personally meet the

train passengers. Onbe thing to note is that if you want to go direct to your

hotel, it is best to book the for the night previous night as well. You might have

to wait until 12.00 if you don't.

2)  Buses leave Moochit on a regular basis. Just look for bus #31. Best service

is Sombat Tours, who run two buses a day, 09.30 & 19.00

3) Air. PB Air run a three times a week service to Burirum, which is 65 km's ( 40

miles) from Surin. Please check the web-site at http://www.pbair.com  for

updates. (they do change aroung November)

3) Taxi. If you are lucky you can get a cab from BKK for around 4,500-5,000

baht, but don't hold me on that one.

Please rember thousands visitors flock to Surin to see this specatacle, with

accommadation enough for 1/10th of them.  So please book early.

This final weekends treats is normally the third weekend of November.

If you are thinking of coming up for the festival, please make sure you book

early to avoid disappointment.

There are various ways of reaching the Surin elephant festival, Plane, Bus,

Train or Car.

Train tickets can be normally booked through travelconnecxion.com,

although there is rarely any difficulty in getting there.

Returning home is the hard bit.

Train, Bus and plane tickets for the return journey can however be booked
