2) The Elephant Village: Located 65kms north of Surin, this is where a lot of the Surin elephants reside. The newly refurbished 'village' now boasts two shows daily, elephant rides, a guest house and if you get the timing right, marriage ceromonies. Cost 1,200 baht for up to four persons. Whole day trip.

3) Phanom Rung & Ta Muang: This day trip actually combines three temples into one trip. First we go to Ta Muang, a collection of three ruins from the time of the conquering armies. This was built as a staging post, and features a holstelry, temple and stables.

From there, we head for Phanom Rung National Site, first visiting Maung Tham, before ascending to Phanom Rung. This ancient temple, was sculptered in the same style as Ankhar Wat, and is situated above an extinct volcano. It is famous for it's spectacular light show, on and around the Spring Equinox.

This temple is one of the most visited in the area, and is a must for most tourists.

Cost for whole day trip, 3,000 for up to four passengers.

4) Khow Pra Viharn: This is definately the most spectacular of the sites around the area. Built on a high rock face overlooking the Cambodian countryside, this Temple/fortress is actually inside Cambodia.

Access however, can only be obtained from Thailand, and although technically you are in another country, a passport is not needed to visit . There are even duty free shops there. There is a catch of course. To ascend to the summit, the visitor must climb 10 flights of steep stairs, before emerging to view the fantastic vista that unfolds before them.

This site is approx 180 kms from Surin, and can be done as a whole day trip, at a cost of 3,800 baht for four persons, or as part of a regional trip.

Overnight stays

1) Ta Muang, Baan Da Kwang pottery village and Pee Mai.

This is a two/three day trip, leaving Surin at 09.00, and first going to the Ta Muang ruins. We then head off in the direction of Korat ( Nakhon Ratchisima), lunching on the way, till we arrive at the Pottery village. We will spend a couple of hours there, before heading for the city center. Korat, is actually the second biggest city in Thailand, and there is plenty to do there. Day two. For those that would like to visit the city Zoo, we have a whole day there, or we can head back to Surin by way of Pee Mai

This is a very beautiful historic site, situated about 70 kms north of Korat. For those who visited the Zoo on day two, this would of course be day three.
Cost of this trip depends on the Hotels involved, and of course duration of the trip, but a rough estimate would be, two day trip, for two adults and two children would be 7,500baht (including hotels) and 11,500baht for three day trip.

2) Khow Pra Viharn, Emerald Triangle, Srithon Resovoir & Pa Thiem National Park.

This would be a three/four night trip, taking in all the spots around the Province of Ubon. Here you will see the two-coloured river, where the Mehkong meets the Moon river,

rock paintings,

waterfalls,

rock formations,

and three national parks.

Day one: We leave Surin, and make our way to Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay,

where we will looked after by Trond and Nok,

first visiting Khow Pra viharn.

Day two: Travel up to Khong Chiem, passing the Emerald Triangle, Chong Mek border crossing, Srithon Dam & Ta Kana National Park. For those who like luxury, we would overnight at the beautiful Toshang Khong Chiem resort,

on the banks of the Mekhong.
There is of course a choice of hotels and guesthouses in the area.

Day three: On to Pa Thiem National park. We'll spend most of the day nosing around all the attractions there, before heading back to Kantaralak, and the resort home of Gary & Su.

The Krachang Yai Guest house is situated around the halfway mark between Ubon and Surin

Next morning after breakfast, we head into Sisaket, to visit the small Zoo there, before leaving for Surin. Again the cost depends on duration and/or type of hotel, but a rough estimate for two adults and two children would be around 15,500baht for the three days.

There are of course other tailor made tours that we can offered. You tell us what you want to do, and we will do it. All the tours are with two British drivers, English & Thai tour guides, and everything is included, except evening meals.
