Although the main tourist attraction of Surin is the renown Elephant round-up every November,
there are quite a few other sites in Surin and the neighboring Provinces to promote quite an interest.

New feature about town. Vanuissa Water Park. Open daily from 10 am.

As well as pool and slides, it boasts a radio station www.szeglatradio.com, a hair-dressing school, & an appartment complex.

Unfurnished appartments are from 1,800 per month.

1) Phamon Rung National Park;

This comprises of Phanom Rung Hindu Temple ( a mini Angkor Wat) and Muang Tham Temple. This delight for tourists and ruin fanatics alike is situated in Buriram Province not far from the Town of Prakhonchai, roughly 90 kms. from Surin. There is quite a lot to see there and also has a good market area where you can buy silk shirts and silver items at more than fair prices.

2) Khao Pra Vi Hahn;

This Khmer ruins is in Srisaket Province about 160 kms from Surin Town, and lies inside Cambodia. The only thing is you cannot reach it from the Cambodian side of the border. You must enter from Thailand. There you climb 14 sets of steep stone stairs before you reach the top and look out over the Cambodian Landscape. Beware! Not for the faint-hearted or breathless types amongst you, but a must if you want a challenge.

3) Sikhorapum Sanctuary;

This lies about 35kms due East from Surin and is another Khmer ruins.

4) Silk village;

This is the actual village where the Silks were made for the A.P.E.C. Conference. You can look over the looms,watch them weaving the threads and buy as much silk as you want at very reasonable prices. Again a must when you visit Surin.

5) Silver village;

This is about 10kms from Surin on the Chom Pra road.

6) Basketry Village;

This lies 15kms East of Surin off Rt. 226 road to Srisaket

7) Elephant village;

The abode of the Suwai People and their Elephants,
this can be found around 45kms from Surin past Chom Pra

.There are daily shows of Elephants at 10.00 & 14.00. Also you can see elephants bathing, have rides etc

There is also a daily bus service from Surin bus station, leaving at

06.00-09.00-12.00-14.00

and back at

07.00-09.00-11.00-16.00

There is also a guest house for those who wish to stay the night..

8) Chong Chom border crossing & market;

Local taxi service

Situated 70kms from Surin this is 'The Road to Angkor Wat', although 'road' leaves a lot to the imagination There is a market on both sides of the crossing and on the Cambodian side there are two casino's and hotels at Osmach about two hundred meters from the point of entry.

9) Wat Pee Mai;

Lies between Buriram & Korat, and is another Khmer ruins.

10) Wat Ban Rai;

This is in Korat Province, a good 200kms from Surin , but a must for Wat lovers. It is one of the most famous Wats in rural Thailand, and as well as being beautiful it is steeped in tradition, being the home of the Revered Monk Luang Phor Khoon Parisutto. Believers come from all over Thailand,in fact all over the world, to be blessed with a gentle tap on the head with a rolled up newspaper. I have had this treatment twice so far.

11) Prasat Ta Mueng

A collection of 5 or 6 Khymer ruins, close to the Cambodian border in the Phanom Dom Rak area.
